Manifest Sonship

The Bible says that all of creation waits for the manifestation of the sons of God. (Romans 8:19) We hear a lot about "manifesting" these days. Some people want to manifest wealth. Others want to manifest health, beauty, or healthy relationships. While all of these are great things, it is sonship that God and all of creation is eager to see in manifestation.

Who are we really? When people are asked to give a summary or description of who they are, oftentimes you will hear them say I am a businessman, a singer, a writer, an architect... (You fill in the blank.) Some will go a bit deeper and say I am a husband or a mother or a good friend. Many of us can relate to these answers and have given them ourselves when asked of our identity, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with this.

As a matter of fact, it is perfectly normal to identify with what we spend most of our time doing on a daily basis. But sonship... what exactly does that look like? Even more specifically, what does it look like to be a son or daughter of God, and how exactly do we 'manifest' this?

Well Jesus walked the earth as a perfect example of this, and no, I am not talking about his sinless nature (although that belongs to us as well). I am speaking of his love and affection for and from the Father. I mean... have you ever considered that he was so enamored with the Father that he would skip meals and get up before daybreak just to spend time alone with God? He just wanted to be with Him... ALL the time. He was in love with God, and he knew that God was just as in love with him.

While manifesting health, wealth, beauty, and great relationships are noble feats, there is a manifestation that is far superior to all of these. It is sharing in glory with Jesus as a joint-heir and child of God.

Romans 8:15-17 in The Passion Translation of the Bible breaks it down fairly well. It says:

15 And you did not receive the “spirit of religious duty,”   leading you back into the fear of never being good enough.   But you have received the “Spirit of full acceptance,”   enfolding you into the family of God. And you will never feel orphaned, for as he rises up within us, our spirits join him in saying the words of tender affection, “Beloved Father!”   16 For the Holy Spirit makes God’s fatherhood real to us as he whispers into our innermost being, “You are God’s beloved child!”   17 And since we are his true children, we qualify to share all his treasures, for indeed, we are heirs of God himself. And since we are joined to Christ, we also inherit all that he is and all that he has.

Listen. We don't have to worry about whether we do and say all the right things! No, we have God's Holy Spirit whispering in our spirits daily that we are God's beloved children in His precious family, and we have a place in His tender heart. He is our beloved Father. He cares for us, and because of this, we have all we need. All He has and all He is belongs to us.

Just as Jesus never had to worry about food, tax money, followers, purpose, love, companionship, or anything else, neither do we. He easily multiplied food. Tax money was taken from the mouth of a fish. People chose to follow him everywhere he went. He knew his calling. He was dearly loved by God even above the love gotten from his earthly family and friends. God gave him John to lie on his chest, Peter to fight for him, and James as a brother and friend who faithfully followed him. Not to mention, Jesus thought it was just as easy to say that one's sins were forgiven as it was to heal the sick and raise the dead. He calmed storms and walked on water effortlessly. Even death could not hold him down, and that same Spirit that raised him from the dead is the One who lives and speaks in us!

So how exactly do we tap into this power, this perfect access to a perfect God who deeply loves us to the point of giving up his throne and life for us and then getting back up to ensure our peace and completeness? Why is it that we walk in such little power so often? What is it that we are missing?

Are you ready for this? Drumroll please! It is connection, intimate connection, to that same Spirit that raised up Christ. It is daily fellowship with the Holy Spirit who "makes God's fatherhood real to us" and takes what belongs to Jesus and shows it to us according to John 16:15. It is Oneness with the Living God. Romans 8:26 TPT tells us that the Holy Spirit takes hold of us in our human frailty to empower us in our weakness (namely when we pray in tongues and groan in the Spirit - God's true language of love).

Honestly, all of Romans chapter 8 warrants reading and meditating, especially in The Passion Translation (TPT). Verses 31 - 39 speaks deeper of God's method of conquest. How is it that God makes us powerful and causes us to manifest His glorious riches in every area of our lives? What is the secret weapon, the key ingredient? AGAPE - God's deep, passionate, intense, unconditional LOVE that never fails nor fades out, that love from which we can never be separated!
